END OF YEAR MIRACLE
December 30, 2022

In April, as we shared with Pastors Jim and Leetha Turner about our heart to begin a search-and-rescue ministry focused on women trapped in sex trafficking over coffee at Panera one morning, Leetha said “God will give you a name.”

A few weeks later, He did. He pointed us back to a book gifted to Kim by a close friend about Psalm 91, where David says:

“For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his pinions (feathers), and under His wings you will find refuge.”

And the name “Under His Wings” was immediately branded on our hearts. To us, it represents God’s tender and protective heart for those most broken, and His unshakeable promise to provide rescue and restoration to WHOSOEVER will call His name for help.

A few months later, we met *L as she was hurrying across a dark parking lot in the Cardinal Valley area of Lexington. She shared that she was terrified after being chased down by a couple who had been robbing and beating people in the neighborhood for several weeks. She was homeless, but staying with some acquaintances in a drug-filled, dangerous environment. She asked about rehab opportunities, but wasn’t ready to go that night, and after we prayed for her, she took our card and disappeared down the street.

A few weeks later, L reached out from a borrowed phone wanting to talk about getting into rehab. We played phone tag for several days and couldn’t connect with her, so we continued to search the neighborhood for her and asked our partners to pray that we would be able to get her help before the end of the year.

Finally, on Dec. 28, she called and was ready to go. When we were able to pick her up and get her admitted at a local residential women’s treatment center within an hour, she said she knew it was God and it was time for a new start.

As we were driving down a main road to the center, L shared the story of her years of struggle with drug addiction and her last few weeks on the streets. We were startled mid-conversation when suddenly a huge bird flew over the corner of and nearly brushed our windshield with its wing. “Was that an eagle?!” she said. Kim agreed that it definitely appeared an eagle had just flown right over our car in the middle of the day in the middle of town. She said “that feels like a sign.”

Later that day, we realized that God was not only confirming our ministry name in that moment, He was supernaturally demonstrating His protection and presence even as *L was IN THE PROCESS of seeking refuge.

It is miracles and God moments like these that we are seeing every time we go out looking for those in need of help and hope in our community!
